A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari, was on Saturday declared the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2015 elections.
The Chairman, Katsina Primary Elections Committee, Prof. Adesina Aderibigbe, who announced the result in Katsina, said that Masari scored 2,470 votes to defeat his rivals.
About 5,266 delegates from the 34 local government areas were screened for the primary election in the state.
Aderibigbe said, Sen. Kanti Bello, polled 1,327 votes; Alhaji Sada Ilu, scored 468 votes; and retired Col. Abdulaziz Yar’adua, late President Umar Yar’adua younger brother, had 243 votes.
He said that the election was free, fair and credible, adding that it was conducted in accordance with the party’s rule and regulation.
The election was conducted under tight security.
Masari in an interview with newsmen in Sokoto during the week, urged Nigerian politicians to play responsible politics for the emergence of good Democratic leaders.
He said that politics of bitterness and violence should not be allowed if we want to conduct free,fair and acceptable elections.
He explained that politicians especially those seeking elective positions must see to the fact that it is not a do or die affair.
Masari in 2011 ran against Governor Ibrahim Shettima. He lost the election then.
