Yakubu Lame: cries foul over governorship primary

Dr Yakubu Lame, a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress in Bauchi state , has called for the cancellation of the result of the party’s primaries.

“I suspect foul play. There were irregularities in the counting of votes after the congress,’’ said Lame,a former minister of police affairs.

According to him, “about 2,844 votes were cast but 2,865 were counted, therefore, 41 votes were in excess after the final count of all the votes cast by the delegates.’’

He also alleged that his delegates from Kubi East in Ganjuwa Local Government Area were not allowed to vote.

“We are appealing to the national headquarters of APC for the elections to be nullified and have a re-run.’’

Lame said he would have won the primary if his supporters were allowed to vote.

“As far as I am concerned, I won the election and not the person declared by the Returning Officer. I call on the APC to seriously look into my appeal.”

The election was won by Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, a lawyer from Bauchi North as announced by the Returning Officer, Mr Oluwole Rotimi (SAN).

Abubakar in the keen contest with with seven other aspirants scored 934 votes to clinch the ticket.

Lame scored 806, Alhaji Yusuf Tuggar, 526 and Alhaji Sadiq Mohammed, 194 votes.

Others included Alhaji Ibrahim Zailani, former member of the House of Representatives, 161, Alhaji Abdullahi Tanko, 92, Alhaji Nuhu Gidado, 86, and Alhaji Mohammed Umar with 56 votes.
