Agricultural production boosted

He also noted that his government has achieved a lot in the agricultural sector with movement of agriculture away from a development Programme to agriculture as a business.

Private sector investment in the agricultural sector , according to him, have expanded by $ US 5.6 billion across the Agricultural value chain while the government has also ended decades of corruption in the fertilizer and seed sectors.

“We developed a transparent and efficient system of reaching farmers directly with subsidized farm inputs. Before our reforms, fertilizer procurement and distribution took from the needy and gave to the greedy. We restored dignity back to farmers. Today, 14 million farmers, of which 2 million are women, access fertilizers with their mobile phones, through an e-wallet system. Nigeria is the first country in the world to develop an e-wallet system to reach farmers with subsidized farm inputs on their mobile phones. Several African countries are now borrowing this transparent and efficient e-wallet system for their own countries,” said the President.

He added that the various initiatives of his administration in the sector has led to increase in national food production by an additional 21 million metric tons between 2011 and 2014, a record which he said has already exceeded target of 20 million metric tons set by government for 2015. He added that with the Dangote Group investment of $US 1 billion in commercial rice production and processing, Nigeria is expected to be an exporter of rice in the next five years.
Declining food import bills.

“ The benefits are showing on our food imports. Our food import bill has declined from 1.1 trillion Naira in 2009 to 684 billion Naira by December 2013, even with our increasing population, a reduction of 40%. Nigeria met its Millennium Development Goal One on reducing hunger and extreme poverty, two years ahead of 2015 target set by the United Nations, and was given an award by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,” said Jonathan.

ICPC to prosecute ‘ghost’ federal civil servants

On corruption, the President said his administration has been able to eliminate corruption in the agriculture sector and will also eradicate it in other sectors of our economy.

The President said he will do this by focusing on reinforcing institutions, systems, and processes to tackle corruption, and also to bring to justice those that perpetrate corruption.

The President noted that through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), the government has been able to weed out 56,000 ghost workers from the Federal Civil Service, saving 162 billion naira.

He also said he has directed the Independent Corruption and Other Offences Commission, ICPC to book. “Let this be very clear, public officers must live by example, fully accounting for the national trust and resources in their care,” said the President.

  • New Nigerian says:

    Jonathan’s qualification for re-election
can be summed up simply as “Boko Haram”. Vote for him and choose
death, destruction and destitution. May God save you, me, all Nigerians from
this evil, May we all know that it is all in out hands to STOP Boko Haram and
other evil in the land by massively voting out Jonathan, show our presence in
all the streets of Nigeria and refuse to go home until the announcement is
confirmed that our votes have been correctly counted, and if INEC allows itself
    – at the point of the gun no less – to make wrong announcement…we should all
go from all our homes in Nigera – by feet, cars, bicycle, plane,
boat…whatever it takes and chase Jonathan out of Aso Rock and let the
judiciary intervene to announce the runner’s up – who in this case is who we
all voted for in the first place. Enough is enough, Enough Nigerians, young,
old have been killed by this president who is confirmed to be tone deaf and a
megalomaniac through his militia with israeli connections as we saw in the
botched armed deals involving his messengers that includes an Israeli citizen.
We would stand for it no more! God save Nigeria and Nigerians and meet out
justice to all those who are bent on perpetuating evil against Nigerians.

We run a presidential system of Government
fashioned after USA’s political system. We aspire for Nigeria to be a trully
democratic county where the government of the people for the people by the
people should reign with liberty and freedom for ALL.

Compare – Reagan invaded Granada, another
country, to secure the life of American students who were in the hundreds.
Jonathan have been in denial for the kidnap of Nigerian students in the
hundreds by a militia he knows all about.

Jonathan should be mourning and he should
be visiting the families of the Children that have just been mowed down by his
militia – Boko Haram. At a minimum
postpone this self-declaration until the 3-day morning is over. This would have
happened if he thinks for a second about Nigerians wellbeing as president. That
is however not what this president has shown and we now know he does not have
the capacity and the milk of kindlness to be the President Nigerians need –
Some people cannot shed tears and can never be moved to action by events – call
them hard hearted, call them emotional bereft, lack of emotional quotient –
call them whatever you may, this president have demonstrated this as a leader
all these years. And Nigerians, all of us have suffered the effect of that – It
may be because he never wore shoes as a child, his upbringing or whatever, he
simply does not have it in him to be moved to action against evil and his
inactions – when he is the only one authorized to act – perpetuates evil and
may God help us to do the right thing by not forcing him to give what he does
not have, this by itself would be evil on the part of Nigerians and collective
suicide. May God protect us from that.
