Alhaji Hakeem Lawal, son of former Kwara state Governor, late Admiral Mohammed Lawal, has promised to make life more abundant for the people of the state if elected as governor in 2015.

Lawal, who is contesting the governorship ticket under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the promise on Monday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.

He said though he was from a well grounded political family, the need to have things done differently for the progress and rapid development of Kwara informed his bid to contest for the governorship ticket.

“I am in politics to contribute my quota to the development of Kwara and make things done differently,” Hakeem said.

Lawal said if he was given the ticket, he would ensure that all civil servants built houses of their own before they retired from service.

He promised to introduce housing fund for all civil servants in the state where they would contribute certain amount of money yearly for the purpose of owing a house.

The aspirant wondered why a civil servant who had worked for over 30 years should not have a house of his own.

He, therefore, promised to embark on aggressive housing policy if elected as governor of the state next year.

Lawal said that if given the ticket, he would embark on agricultural revolution in the state as he would establish rice processing mills.

According to him, he will encourage mechanised farming among the rural farmers as tractors would be made available to the farms.

Lawal also promised to continue his late father’s three phase programme of water supply in the state.

He promised to embark on short term programme of sinking bore holes across the state to make potable water available to the people.

He promised to resuscitate the construction of water tanks in Ilorin and other major towns in the state to provide water to the people.

Lawal added that he would expand Asa Dam just as his late father had planned to do in 2002.

He promised to continue with any project he would inherit from the APC government in the service to the people of the state.

“Governance is about people’s welfare. If that is the case, I see no reason why any project with interest of people and their welfare should not be continued, ” he added.

The governorship hopeful said President Goodluck Jonathan had done marvelously well for the country and deserved to be given another term to continue the good work.

“President Jonathan has done well if I have to assess his administration holistically.

“In governance, it takes time to see the results of administration on ground. But with patience, citizens would see the results of President Jonathan, ” he added.
