The Peoples Democratic Party’s avowed determination to unseat the ruling All Progresive Congress, APC, in Lagos state may well be a pipe dream afterall as crisis is already brewing in the PDP over the outcome of the ward Congress election held by the party in the state last Saturday.
The national headquarters of the PDP had inaugurated the Amb. Obed Wadzani led ward congress electoral committee for Lagos state for the purpose of conducting the election of three adhoc delegates for Lagos state which election was held last Saturday.
The election held peacefully in all the 19 local government areas of the state but the result of Epe local government area was cancelled by the electoral committee.
Findings however indicate that some notable and influential chieftains of the party working for the emergence of one of the governorship aspirants in the state were not pleased with the outcome of the election which produced delegates whom they whom they believe would not work for the emergence of their preferred candidate.
To achieve their goal, the chieftains are mounting pressure upon the national leadership of the PDP to cancel the entire outcome of the delegates election instead of that of the Epe local government area alone. This will make way for the selection of those who will work for the emergence their choice aspirant as the flag bearer of the party for the election.
According to the report submitted to the party headquarters by the Amb. Obed Wadzani led committee, the election at Epe local government area was canceled based on gross irregularities, but those of the other local government areas were conducted in compliance with the rules and guidelines of the party as directed by the national leadership of the party.
For now, 9 aspirants are battling for the party’s ticket to contest the forthcoming governorship election in the state. These aspirants include Musiliu Obanikoro, who recently resigned his position as Nigeria’s minister of state for defence, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, a pharmacist, businessman and member of the Afenifere Renewal Group who just recently joined the party, Mr. Ade Dosunmu, a former public servant who had also contested against Fashola in 2011, Deji Doherty, a businessman, Babatunde Gbadamosi, a consultant, and Dominic Adegbola, also a medical practitioner.
