Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau, on Thursday, urged PDP governorship aspirants to come to Plateau and meet the electorate “instead of fighting from Abuja.’’

The governor made the call at the swearing in of four newly appointed commissioners.

He said “there are many seeking to be Plateau governors but instead of coming to the people to seek for their votes, they prefer to stay in Abuja to address press conferences. I want to advise such people to come home.’’

The governor advised aspirants to seek the people’s mandate by selling their manifestoes, rather than engaging in divisive issues like tribe, religion, local government or senatorial zones.

He declared that there was never a time Plateau people agreed to zone the governorship to a particular group, pointing out that governors had always emerged on merit after contesting with co-contestants from other zones.

According to him, politicians must channel their energies toward convincing their people of their capacity so that they can be elected on merit.

Jang said he was aware that seven people from the southern senatorial district of the state had picked nomination forms for governorship, while five and three were from Plateau central and northern zones respectively.

He added that “God appoints governors; those who force themselves always run into trouble.’’

He expressed sadness that politics had been used to ridicule good relationship among politicians, and observed that it was only in Plateau that those vying for political positions went to Abuja to buy delegates’ forms.

“Aspirants purchasing delegates’ forms in such large numbers is not acceptable in PDP,’’ he said.

The governor advised politicians to use the level playing ground provided for them to convince the electorate to vote for them and avoid heating the polity
