Zephrin Diabre: another clarion call

Burkina Faso’s season of discontent is far from over, a day after long reigning leader, Blaise Compaore was kicked out of office.

With Colonel Isaac Zadi consolidating his grip on power, after he in turn sacked chief of army staff, who had first proclaimed himself head of state, the opposition appears headed for another confrontation with the new junta with a call to the people to come out for a rally Sunday.

The rally is to be held at the same site in central Ouagadougou where up to a million people had gathered earlier this week to demand Compaore’s resignation.

It is not clear what the demand will be this time around, but many protesters favoured the installation of a former military officer, Major Kodio Lougue, to midwife the country’s transitional programme to democracy.
