Two men — Kabiru Taoreek and Yussuf Olatunji — who allegedly stabbed a man with a broken bottle over girlfriend, were on Wednesday charged before an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Taoreek, 23, an apprentice and Olatunji, 19, a shoemaker, all residents of Balogun St., also in Oshodi, were charged with conspiracy and assault.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde told the court that the accused with others still at large committed the offences on Oct. 20 at Alasia, Oshodi.
He said the accused conspired and assaulted the complainant, Mr Dotun Owoseni, by stabbing him with a broken bottle.
“The complainant’s girlfriend invited him to her birthday party. When Taoreek sighted him, he connived with his friends to deal with him being his rival.
“The accused warned the complainant to desist from dating the girl after which they attacked him with a broken bottle … they stabbed him. The accused took to their heels when they saw blood gushing out of his body,’’ he said.
The offences, Olatunde said, contravened Sections 171 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 171 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault, while Section 410 provides two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and were granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
