Vice-President of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Crentsil has moved to rule out Stephen Keshi as one of the candidates being considered as the next coach of the Ghana national team.
Crentsil stated ”We opened a window for applications and it’s been closed for sometime now. We’ve even shortlisted and interviewed three coaches and we are in the last stages of sending a report to the FA Executive Committee.”
The GFA executive added ”Unfortunately, we are not considering any other names and so Stephen Keshi – who we respect a lot – will not be able to make it.”
Forrmer Chelsea manager Avram Grant is reportedly one of the three candidates in contention for the Ghana role, along with Swiss coach Michel Pont and Spaniard Juan Ignacio Martinez.
Keshi had signified his interest in taking over from Kwesi Appiah, who left the Black Stars by mutual consent in September, when he stated in a radio interview in Ghana that ”I would love to coach Ghana. Having the opportunity will be great. I have not spoken officially to anyone but I will love to lead this team.”
The 52-year old former coach of Mali and Ghana was recently relieved from his caretaker role with Nigeria, following a poor start to the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in which the Super Eagles lost two of its opening three matches.
