Russian Tennis Boss Issues 'Williams Brothers' Apology

Russian tennis boss Shamil Tarpischev has issued an apology to the Williams sisters; Venus and Serena, for recently referring to them as the ”Williams brothers’, according to Serena.

The women’s number one player revealed after her straight sets win over Eugenie Bouchard at the WTA Finals in Singapore that Tarpischev had sent a written apology to her.

She stated ”He has reached out to apologize to both myself and my sister,” adding that they had not spoken with each other.

Tarpischev had made the comment on a Russian television show and was consequently handed a $25,000 fine as well as a one-year suspension from the tour.

He however insists there was no malicious intent, and the quotes were taken out of context.
