La Liga strugglers Levante have sacked coach Jose Luis Mendilibar after just two months in charge following their 5-0 thrashing against Real Madrid on Saturday.

“Levante’s board of directors have held an extraordinary meeting and decided to rescind the contract of Jose Luis Mendilibar,” said a statement on the club’s website.

The 53-year-old managed just one win in eight games in charge leaving the Valencian side second bottom of the table.

Mendilibar becomes the second La Liga coach to be fired in a matter of hours after bottom-placed Cordoba parted company with ex-Chelsea and Barcelona defender Albert Ferrer on Monday.

Former Serbian international Miroslav Djukic has been appointed as Ferrer’s replacement.
