World number one Serena Williams has been drawn alongside two of this year’s best young players in the Red Group of the BNP-Paribas WTA Tour Finals in Singapore.

The 33-year old, who has won the last two editions of the WTA Finals, will face 23-year old Simona Halep as well as 20-year old Eugenie Bouchard during the round-robin stage which begins later today.

Halep and Bouchard both reached their first ever grand slam finals at the French Open and Wimbledon respectively, though have each never won a match against Serena.

Meanwhile Ana Ivanovic, who had a resurgent season to make a return into the top 10 of the rankings for the first time since 2009, is also drawn in the Red Group.

Second seed Maria Sharapova is drawn in the White Group with Petra Kvitova, Agniezska Radwanska as well as former world number one Caroline Wozniacki.

Sharapova could still finish the year as world number one but would need to win all her matches in Singapore coupled with a poor tournament for Serena in order to achieve that.

The 44th WTA Finals will hold from October 17 to October 26 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
