The Super Falcons of Nigeria have booked a place in the semi-finals of the 2014 African Women’s Championship with a match to spare, following a 6-0 thrashing of Zambia in their Group A match this evening in Namibia.

Ngozi Okobi gave Nigeria the perfect start when she turned in Asisat Oshoala’s freekick in the second minute, with Osinachi Ohale doubling the Falcons lead just three minutes later off another freekick taken by Ngozi Ebere.

The six-time champions added a third goal in the 25th minute through Desire Oparanozie’s penalty while the Zambians got reduced to 10 women minutes before the interval after Grace Zulu was sent off for a foul on Oparanozie.

Oshoala squandered a couple of opportunities to add to Nigeria’s advantage early in the second, though the Canada 2014 MVP eventually got on the scoresheet just after the hour mark when she headed in a ball in from Ebere.

Oparanozie and veteran Perpetua Nkwocha, who came on in the second half, completed the rout against the debutants with late efforts to see Nigeria through to the last four of the competition.

The Super Falcons will next face host nation Namibia in the final group game at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Friday, in which a draw would be enough to see Nigeria finish top of the group after Namibia fell 3-1 to Cote D’Ivoire in the other group match played this evening.

A brace in the closing six minutes from Ines Tia gave the Ivorians victory over the hosts and put them in second spot with three points, ahead of Namibia by virtue of goals scored.
