Akinwale Oshodi, Victim of Neglect?

Akinwale Oshodi, a broadcaster and former member of staff of the Governor’s Office, Akure, Ondo State, died yesterday as a result of a protracted illness.

Oshodi was a household name in Ondo State as he anchored the newspaper reviews at the Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, Orita Obele, Akure before joining the Mimiko administration in his first term as special assistant, electronic media.

After Mimiko was re-elected, he did not reappoint Oshodi.

Saharareporters wrote that Oshodi was a victim of neglect, abandoned by those who should care for him at his critical moment.

Mr. Oshodi reportedly died Sunday morning at an unconfirmed hospital after battling an undisclosed ailment over the past three months. He is survived by a wife and children.

Early last week, there were rumors he had already passed but his close friends were able to prove he was still alive.

Before his appointment to the governor’s staff, he was a Media manager with the Ondo State Radio Vision Corporation (OSRC), where he headed the Crime beat. He was known for his fierce coverage and passionate reporting, as well as his engaging style of delivering the early morning ‘Newspaper Review’ at the radio arm of the station.

Oshodi was appointed Special Assistant on electronics media by Governor Mimiko during his first term to coordinate many of the Labour Party’s government propaganda programmes both within and outside the state.
