Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that no single case of Ebola virus or any contagious disease was reported to the Health Ministry.
The Advisor to the Minister of Health, Tareq Madani, who stated this in a statement, added that steps had been taken to curtain coronavirus which spread in the country in March and April.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause a range of illnesses in humans, from the common cold to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
Madani said the Ministry of Health took preventive measures to combat the coronavirus infection in hospitals and had also educated people on how to avoid transmission of the virus.
“Complying with its policy of transparency, the ministry is going to announce any case once it is discovered among pilgrims,’’ the spokesman said.
Madani explained the measures taken inside hospitals in the Kingdom to stop the spread.
“With emphasis on pilgrims coming from abroad, particularly Ebola-stricken countries such as Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, same measures were taken to avoid the spread of the disease,’’ he added.
He said the Ministry of Health had provided smart-phone and Android service to assist a sick pilgrim to make his/her way to the nearest health facility in Hajj area.
He said movable laboratories that provide careful and precise diagnosis of the disease had been set up.
According to him, they can send result to doctors and control centre whenever and wherever a case appears during Hajj
