Algerian club ES Setif have reached the 2014 CAF Champions League final by virtue of away goals after the second semi-final against TP Mazembe of DR Congo ended 4-4 on aggregate.
Mazembe came from a goal down to win 3-2 in Kinshasha but the Algerian side went through to the final having claimed a last-gasp 2-1 win over Mazembe in the first leg in Algeria last weekend.
Abdelmalek Ziaya’s late goal had secured victory then and Ziaya picked up from where he left off by putting Setif ahead after just nine minutes on Sunday, nodding in a chipped cross to give Mazembe an early mountain to climb.
However, the hosts battled back and ended up 2-1 ahead by half-time with Daniel Adjei Nii heading in from close range after Sofiane Khedairia palmed a free-kick on to the post, before Salif Coulibaly steered Solomon Asante’s corner in.
Jonathan Bolingi looked to have scored the winner for Mazembe when he headed Mbwana Samatta’s cross into the bottom corner just after the break.
Setif however had the last laugh as Sofiane Younes scored with a cross which went over the Mazembe goalkeeper for the all-important second away goal 15 minutes from time.
Setif will now come up against another club from DR Congo, as AS Vita came from a goal down to beat CS Sfaxien 2-1 in Tunisia to complete a 4-2 aggregate win.
The first leg of the CAF Champions League final is scheduled for the weekend of October 24-26 with the return leg to take place a week later between October 31 and November 2, 2014.
