Chelsea Ease Past Villa as Man. City Overcome Hull

Diego Costa scored his eighth goal of the season as Chelsea claimed a 3-0 win over Aston Villa in Stamford Bridge while Edin Dzeko scored twice as Manchester City overcame Hull City 4-2 in another Premier League match today.

Brazilian playmaker Oscar opened the scoring for the Blues in the seventh minute, being set up for the tap-in by countryman Willian whose initial effort was kept out by Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Willian came close to getting a second assist in the first half when his great ball in was met by Diego Costa, but the Brazilian born Spanish striker’s header went straight at Guzan.

Costa, who was a doubt ahwad of the match with a hamstring injury, eventually doubled Chelsea’s lead just before the hour mark with a header before Willian poked in the third 10 minutes from time off a rebound of a Costa shot.

The win keeps Chelsea top of the Premier League with 16 points after six matches, three points ahead of second placed Southampton that beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 in St. Mary’s while Manchester City is a further point behind in third place following a thrilling 4-2 win at Hull City.

A frenetic start at the KC Stadium saw Sergio Agüero and Dzeko put City 2-0 up after 11 minutes only for a nightmare 10 minutes for City’s French defender Eliaquim Mangala have Hull level the match at 2-2 by the 33rd minute.

First Mangala scored an own goal in 22nd minute before bringing down Abel Hernandez 10 minutes later, with the Uruguayan striker picking himself up to equalise for Hull from the resultant penalty.

Yaya Toure struck the woodwork from the edge of the area while Dzeko went close with an effort moments into the second half as City looked to retake the lead.

Dzeko eventually got his second of the afternoon to put City back in front 22 minutes from time while substitute Frank Lampard continued his rich vein of form in front of goal with the fourth three minutes from time.
