My Defence Of Orji Kalu —Ebere Wabara

There is the allegation by Kalu that he is being monitored by people hired by Governor Theodore Orji and the governor and his people are of the view that it is the former governor who should be suspected of monitoring people. They mentioned an issue of 40 corpses recovered in a container during the administration of former governor Kalu as well as his introduction of the Bakassi Boys and the Okija Shrine saga which made some people even run away from the state at that period. How would you react to this?

Emeka Obasi wrote some three or four weeks ago that when Kalu was leaving as governor, he left the driver, the chief cook and some other people including personal staff. But as we talk, the only person Kalu left there was his driver and this was because he said he didn’t need him. The driver, in any case is from Anambra State and Theodore Orji was at liberty to disengage any person, even if the former governor left any. Kalu is very sure that it was only the driver that he left when he was going. It is not that he foisted the driver on him, but that he did not have any need for him. He took the cook and others and went away leaving the driver.

When I read Emeka Obasi, I was just laughing. That was a non-issue. It is like an editor saying a reporter was foisted on him. Unless you are not in charge. If they say you did something else, that would be an issue, not that you left a person behind. I have read it in the papers and I say I don’t know how this one leads to anything. For me, it lacks substance.

There is the saying that Kalu has dual personality because his father’s name is Nzeigbe and that Kalu refused to be associated with his father…
