Inter Milan Hit 7th Heaven in Serie A

Mauro Icardi scored a hattrick while Pablo Osvaldo contributed a brace as Inter Milan cruised to a 7-0 demolition of Sassuolo in a Serie A match on Sunday at the San Siro.

Having opened their season with a goalless draw before the international break, it took just four minutes for Inter to break the deadlock today, with Icardi converting a rebound at the second attempt after Mateo Kovacic’s initial long range shot was kept out.

Kovacic got his goal midway through the first half, with Osvaldo cushioning a long cross-field pass from Icardi for the Croatian midfielder to slot home.

Icardi made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark, getting on to a pass from Hernanes before curling home from 20 yards out, while Osvaldo made it 4-0 just before half-time with a simple finish on the rebound after Dodo’s initial effort was kept out.

Icardi completed his hattrick eight minutes into the second half with an emphatic finish after being set up by Kovacic before Osvaldo grabbed his second and Inter’s sixth in the 72nd minute with another tap in off a Fredy Guarin lay-off.

Guarin completed the demolition two minutes later with a powerful finish after being set up by Osvaldo, as Inter repeated the exact win it got away at the same opposition last season.

The win puts Inter on four points after two matches, two points behind champions Juventus and AS Roma that occupy top spot with identical perfect records after two matches.

In other matches in Italy on Sunday, Gonzalo Higuaín missed a first half penalty as Rafael Benitez’s Napoli fell to a 1-0 loss at home to Chievo Verona while Lazio got a 3-0 win at home to Cesena and Fiorentina drew goalless with Genoa.
