Diego Costa hit a hattrick while Löic Remy scored on his debut as Chelsea came from a goal down to overcome Swansea City 4-2 in a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge today.

Both sides came into the encounter with a perfect record of three wins from three matches before the international break, and after it seemed the Welsh visitors would get a shock result, the Blues stormed back to claim an emphatic win in the end.

It was also a clash of the winners of the league’s monthly award winners, but August’s manager of the month Garry Monk had to endure watching Spanish striker Diego Costa score his first hattrick for Chelsea.

After Chelsea captain John Terry had put into his goal to give the Swans an 11th minute lead, Costa struck on the stroke of half-time when he headed in Cesc Fabregas’ cornerkick and maintain both players’ blossoming partnership.

Both players combined yet again to give Chelsea the lead just before the hour mark, with Fabregas bearing down the Swansea near post before cutting back for Costa who scored from close range.

French striker Bafetimbi Gomis had a chance to equalise for Swansea in the 66th minute when put through on goal by Wayne Routledge but his chipped effort over Thibaut Courtois failed to find the target.

Gomis and the rest of Swansea were made to rue the missed opportunity a minute later when Costa ghosted in ahead of Lukasz Fabianski to steer in a scoffed Ramires shot and complete his hattrick.

The goals ensured Costa, who now has seven goals in four matches, became only the second player in Premier League history to score in each of his first four matches after Micky Quinn.

Somehow Chelsea failed to make it 4-1 in the 71st minute when Fabianski did well to deny Oscar twice either side of Branislav Ivanovic’s effort but the Polish goalkeeper could do nothing to prevent the fourth soon after.

Remy, on for Costa, was found by an Oscar pass and the French man curled a low effort past Fabianski into the bottom corner to open his Chelsea account following his move from Queens Park Rangers late in August.

Swansea pulled one back through Jonjo Shelvey but it was mere consolation as Chlsea held on for a commanding victory that keeps them top of the league with 12 points from four matches.

The win puts Chelsea three points clear at the top of the Premiee League and in great form going into its opening group match in the UEFA Champions League against Schalke in midweek.
