Manchester United’s dire start to the Premier League season continued this afternoon in a goalless draw at newly promoted Burnley, a match that witnessed record signing Angel di Maria make his debut for the Red Devils.

The Argentine was however helpless in inspiring the Red Devils to a morale boosting win at Turf Moor, putting in a decent shift before being replaced after 70 minutes by Brazilian midfielder Anderson.

Burnley began the match better and came close to breaking the deadlock in the opening minutes, but ex-Manchester United player David Jones saw his free-kick come off the post with United goalkeeer David de Gea well beaten.

Man. United’s best chance of the opening half came in the 16th minute when Robin van Persie was put through on goal by Di Maria only to be denied by the Burnley goalkeeper.

Juan Mata then slipped in the Burnley area as he was about to get an effort on goal midway through the first half while De Gea kept out a dipping effort by Jones in the 28th minute as the half ended goalless.

Van Persie was denied again on the hour mark when his effort was cleared off the line as United looked to come away with the win but Burnley held on to claim a point against Louis van Gaal’s side.

The result is the first time Burnley have kept a cleansheet in 30 Premier League matches while United remain without a win in four competitive matches this season.
