The Super Falconets of Nigeria have reached the semi-final of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup following a 4-1 demolition of New Zealand in Moncton.

It is the third time the Nigerian girls have reached the last four stage of the competition and they will come up against North Korea for a place in the final.

Playing against a side making its first ever appearance in the knockout stage, Nigeria showed her supremacy from the onset when Asisat Oshoala headed in the opening goal after 31 seconds.

The goal is the second fastest goal at Canada 2014 with teammate Courtney Dike’s 18th second goal against South Korea the fastest of the competition so far.

Oshoala went on to double Nigeria’s lead after 12 minutes, racing on to a defence-splitting pass by Chinwendu Ihezuo and to slot the ball through the legs of the New Zealand goalkeeper.

The rest of the half petered out with Nigeria maintaining her comfortable lead, only coming close to making it 3-0 midway through the second half but Uchenna Kanu’s effort was pushed on to the crossbar.

Uchechi Sunday got that third goal for Nigeria in the 84th minute, converting from close range off a cornerkick.

And though New Zealand pulled one back through Emma Rolston with a minute to go, Sunday restored Nigeria’s three-goal cushion in stoppage time and seal a comfortable passage to the last four.

Nigeria will face North Korea on Wednesday after the Koreans defeated holders USA on penalties, while 2010 champions Germany will meet European champions France in the second semi-final on Wednesday.
