The Minster of Aviation, Mr Osita Chidoka, said President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the ministry to recruit protocol officers to man entry and exit points at the airports.
Chidoka made this known when the Deputy Information Officer, U.S Embassy, Maria Brewer, visited him in Abuja on Thursday to discuss ways to curtail the spread of Ebola virus.
According to him, Jonathan has given a waiver to the ministry to recruit more protocol staff to screen passengers.
He said the Ministry of Finance had given approval for the release of fund for exercise.
The minister said Ebola virus had become a challenge to Africa and especially in Nigeria where the citizenry had to suffer from the outbreak of the virus.
He said that the response of the Federal Government had been swift and far reaching to alley the fear of those who had primary and secondary contact.
He said Jonathan had given the ministry full support to curtail the spread of the virus at the various airports in the country.
Chidoka explained that there had been screening for those going out and those coming into the country.
He said the ministry was monitoring movement in and out of the country, adding that protocols had been developed at the various airports to curtail the virus.
The minister said that ambulances had been dedicated for the purpose of those who might have contracted the virus to convene them to the hospital.
The U.S Embassy Deputy Information Officer, commended the Nigeria government’s response to the virus, adding that the response had been swift and comprehensive.
She said the U.S would be willing to lend a helping hand and see the possible areas of collaboration to forestall the spread of the virus at the various airports in the country.
Brewer said that the news making round that bitter cola could cure the virus was a ruse, and called on the public to disregard the rumour.
