The murder trial of South African double-amputee athlete Oscar Pistorius will conclude next month after Judge Thokozile Masipa stated she will give a verdict on September 11.

Pistorius is being tried for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, whom he stated he mistakenly shot through the closed doors of a toilet in their home on February 14, 2013 having assumed there was an intruder.

The trial, which began in March this year, saw defense and prosecuting counsels make their final argumemts before Judge Masipa today, with chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel stating Pistorius ”intended to kill a human being” and urged the Judge to convict him of premeditated murder.

Barry Roux of the defense however stated Pistorius had been made vulnerable and anxious to crime pver the years due to his disability, adding that a long-time fear of being attacked led to the ‘accidental killing’ of the late Steenkamp.

Pistorius, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of premeditated murder as well as to three separate firearm charges, faces jail time of 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
