Amalaha Stripped of Commonwealth Gold Medal

Teenage Nigerian weightlifter Chika Amalaha has been stripped of the gold medal she won in weightlifting and disqualified from the Commonwealth Games after her B-sample dope test returned positive.

Amalaha had lifted a Games record 196kg in the women’s 53kg category but was given a provisional suspension after her A-sample taken moments after her lift showed traces of diuretics and masking agents.

In a statement by the Games executive, ”The Commonwealth Games Federation has determined that Nigerian weightlifter, Chika Amalaha, has committed an anti-doping rule violation and has fully suspended her from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.”

As a result of her disqualification, Dika Toua from Papua New Guinea has been awarded the gold medal with the India duo Santoshi Matsa and Swati Singh claiming silver and bronze.
