Premier League club Everton have completed the transfer of Belgium international striker Romelo Lukaku from Chelsea for a club record fee of £28m.

Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at Everton, signed a five-year deal with the Merseyside club to end a three-year spell with Chelsea where he made only 10 Premier League appearances.

“I decided quickly I wanted to come back. Here I have the trust of the staff and supporters” stated Lukaku after completing his permanent return to Goodison Park, adding ”I have a good relationship with the players. This is the place where I belong.”

On his part, Everton boss Roberto Martinez stated “He fits perfectly into where we are as a
football club. We are ambitious, we want to be successful, and he represents a lot more than just a player.”

Despite two successful loan spells over the last two seasons at West Brom and Everton, during which he scored 32 goals in 66 league matches, Lukaku remained surplus at Chelsea where new signing Diego Costa and returning striker Didier Drogba will lead the attack.

Lukaku becomes Everton’s third major signing following the arrivals of England midfielder Gareth Barry – who also spent last season on loan at Goodison Park – and Bosnia midfielder Muhammed Besic.
