The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to discuss a number of issues, including next month’s general congress andthe vacant position of Super Eagles coach at a meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
The NFF congress in August will see elections take place, weeks after the Aminu Maigari-led board was restrained from office and eventually reinstated, leading to a FIFA suspension on Nigeria being lifted.
Meanwhile, Mike Okeke Umeh has been appointed as acting-President of the NFF until a new exexutive committee is elected into office in August.
A new coach for the Super Eagles to replace Stephen Keshi may also be identified at the meeting, with the NFF not keen on renewing Keshi’s contract – reportedly due to his demands – despite leading Nigeria to the last 16 at the recent World Cup in Brazil.
Speculation is that Keshi, who was on a monthly salary circa ₦5m, demanded for his salary to be doubled as well as to be allowed to choose his backroom staff.
Other issues expected to be discussed at the meeting include the Falconets preparation for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in August and the qualifying campaign of the Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles for the 2015 U17 and U20 African Championships respectively.
