Abuja – Journalists were barred from covering Tuesday’s meeting in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, between President Goodluck Jonathan and some parents of the school girls abducted in Chibok, Borno, on April 14.
Some of the schoolgirls, who escaped from the terrorists, are also at the meeting, which is currently holding at the banquet Hall of , Abuja.
Also in attendance are Governors Kashim Shettima and Isa Yuguda of Borno and Bauchi states, respectively, service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar. Many of the parents looked very distressed at the plight of their missing girls, which enters 100 days on Wednesday, July 23.
Community leaders from Chibok are also at today’s meeting with the President.
Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl-child education campaigner, had visited Jonathan on July 14 and urged him to meet with the girls’ parents.
The president had acceded to her request and the meeting was scheduled for 4 p.m. the next day, but it was cancelled after the parents failed to turn up.
However, Jonathan, according to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr Doyin Okupe, directed that a letter of invitation be sent to the parents for Tuesday’s meeting.
