A day after losing Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal, Spanish giants Barcelona have announced the signing of Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez from Premier League club Liverpool on a five-year deal.
According to a statement by Barcelona, ”The Uruguayan will be travelling to Barcelona next week for a medical, to sign his five-year contract and to be officially presented to the media and fans as an FC Barcelona player”
The fee taking Suarez to the Catalan club is believed to be around £75m, which would make the forward the third most expensive player in football history behind Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo who play for Barça’s arch-rivals Real Madrid.
Suarez scored 31 goals for Liverpool in the Premier League last season to help the Merseyside club finish second in the title race and qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in five years.
The 27-year old will however be unable to debut for Barcelona until October when he woukd have served a four-month international ban from FIFA for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match in June.
