Nick Kyrgios caused a major stir in the tennis world when he overcame world number one Rafael Nadal in a thrilling four-set win to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Following up on his second round heroics against Frenchman Richard Gasquet, the Australian teenager showed much composure in dispatching the 14-time grand slam champion 7-6(5), 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-3 in just under three hours.

The keenly contested match saw the 19 year old take the opening set with a tie-break before Nadal broke Kyrgios’ serve at the conclusion of the second to level the match with a tie-break as well.

The close contest continued in the third set but it would be Kyrgios who would come out tops, again with a tie-break as he killed off Nadal’s momentum before wrapping up a famous win in the fourth set.

Having won just two grand slam matches before Wimbledon this year, Kyrgios will next come up against big serving Canadian Milos Raonic for an unprecedented place in the semi-finals.

Before then, Swiss duo Stanislas Wawrinka and Roger Federer will meet in the quarterfinals while top seed Novak Djokovic will face Marin Cilic and defending champion and third seed Andy Murray will meet Grigor Dmitrov in another last eight encounter.
