Police arraign student for unlawful possession of gun

Benin- An undergraduate university student, Oscar Destiny, 20, was on Monday arraigned in an Egor Chief Magistrates’ Court charged with unlawful possession of one locally made gun.Justice symbol

The prosecutor, Mr Joseph Oriwabo, told the court that the offence was committed in March at Idumwina community, Benin.

Oriwabo said that the accused unlawfully had in his possession one locally made short gun.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 428 (d) of the Criminal Code.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful possession of arms levelled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Maria Ojobo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N30,000 with one surety in like sum who must be a house owner.

Ojobo said that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

She adjourned hearing in the case until July 14.
