Report is emerging that Super Eagles players boycotted Thursday night’s training session after a meeting with NFF officials over immediate payment of their appearance fees ended inconclusive.
The Super Eagles were due to leave their hotel for training but the designated team bus returned to the parking lot an hour later after the players failed to show up.
According to kickoff.com, the players had refused to attend training unless the NFF paid the bonuses due, having qualified for the World Cup knockout stages.
Meanwhile Secretary-General of the NFF Musa Adamu reportedly left Brazil for Nigeria Thursday concerning the money for the players’ bonuses, ahead of Nigeria’s second round match against France on Monday evening.
Despite having a budget of about $12m approved by the Presidency for the World Cup campaign, it was learnt that the NFF came to Brazil only with enough funds to pay the players’ bonuses for the group stage.
Previously, fellow African representatives at the World Cup Cameroun and Ghana were riddled by pay disputes between respective football associations and their players, with Ghana settling match bonuses just hours before the Black Stars final group match against Portugal which Ghana lost 2-1 eventually.
