Group makes case for Zuwaira Bakori as APC scribe

The National Executive Committee of the APC has been urged to declare Hajiya Zuwaira Bakori as the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the party to ensure justice and fair play.

A group, the New Era Coalition of Nigeria (NECN), made the call during a protest march at the APC Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.

National Coordinator of NECN, Musa Abdulkareem, said Bakori was “brazenly robbed“ of her clear chance of emerging as Deputy National Organising Secretary of the party during its National Convention in Abuja.

According to him, Alhaji Suleiman Hunkuyi, who was declared winner at the convention, did not meet the stipulated guidelines of the party for the position.

“Hunkuyi was out of country during the convention and his attempt to be screened in absentia was turned down by the Screening Committee.

“On the contrary, Bakori entered the contest eligibly and got screened, including attracting enormous votes from the electorate during the convention.

“ For a party that is preaching change for better political process, we expect that charity will begin from home in its affairs and conduct.’’

Reacting to the demand, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, advised the group to send their grievances to the Appeal Committee of the party.

“I am not in the best position to comment on this matter. The party has set up a committee that will handle all issues arising from the convention’’, Mohammed said.

NECN said it was composed of patriotic Nigerians desirous of promoting the cause of equity and transparency in politics.
