Oko Poly signs MoU with Germany on science, technology development

Oko (Anambra) – The Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra and a German company on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost science and technology courses in the institution.

The Rector of the institution, Prof Godwin Onu, said the partnership would go a long way in enhancing technological development in the school and the country in general.

Onu said the project started after his visit to the company in Germany six months ago with a view to improving the technical education in the polytechnic.

According to him, the company will provide science equipment for training of middle based manpower as well as training and retraining of workers in the field.

He said that his aim was to transform the institution for possible upgrade to a university of science and technology.

The rector commended the company for the partnership and investing in the school.

In his remarks, Mr Klaus-Dieter Hand, the representative of the Phywe-Lucas Group of Companies, Goettingen/Kerpen in Germany, said it decided to partner with the polytechnic because of the zeal of the rector.

He said the company was a reputable manufacturer and producer of science equipment in Germany for over 100 years.

Hand promised to keep to the terms of agreement in order to develop the school to a higher standard.

The Chairman of the Institution’s Governing Council, Chief Azubike Odukwe, said the agreement would enhance knowledge and also promote research for the students of the school.

Odukwe commended the company for the collaboration, adding that it would make the students to be self-reliant after graduation. (NAN)
