Sabri Lamouchi has resigned from his position as coach of the Ivorian team in the aftermath of elimination from the FIFA World Cup with a last gasp 2-1 loss to Greece on Tuesday night.

The former French international was appointed by Cote D’Ivoire in May 2012 and led the Elephants to a disappointing quarterfinal exit at the Cup of Africa Nations in 2013 though sealed World Cup qualification afterwards.

But after opening their World Cup campaign with a comeback 2-1 win over Japan, Cote D’Ivoire lost by the same scoreline to Colombia and, in stoppage time, to Greece, prompting Lamouchi to announce his decision to leave.

Speaking after the match againdt Greece, Lamouchi said ”My contract comes to an end at this World Cup and there will be no epilogue and you can understand well as to why. It is logical as we did not do well at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations or at the World Cup finals.”
