Nico Rosberg maintained his record of finishing in the top two in every race this season after claiming the Austrian grand prix today ahead of Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton and Williams duo Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa.

It was another dominant race for Mercedes in Austria to claim a sixth one-two finish this season while world champion Sebastien Vettel’s poor season continued as he was forced to retire on his RedBull team’s home track.

Vettel’s Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo, coming into the race after claiming a first ever grand prix win last time out in Canada, finished in eighth after starting fifth on the grid to sum up a disappointing weekend for Red Bull.

Massa began the race in pole position but it was the Mercedes drivers that began the race best with Rosberg going past Bottas into second place while Hamilton went from ninth to fourth in the opening lap.

Bottas reclaimed second spot from Rosberg almost immediately and had gone past teammate Massa by the 15th lap as the top positions changed hands a few times in the early laps.

Force-India’s Sergio Perez took over leadership in the race but was soon usurped by both Mercedes and Williams drivers with Rosberg taking the lead in lap 27 and Bottas following in second.

Massa’s challenge for a podium finish began to fade when he fell to fourth by the 47th lap while Hamilton had gone up the field to second place ahead of Bottas as the race eventually became one between the Mercedes drivers which saw Rosberg hold off Hamilton for his third grand prix win.

As a result, Rosberg now has 165 points to hold a 29-point lead over Hamilton on the drivers championship while Ricciardo maintained third place with 83 points but saw Fernando Alonso close the gap between them to just four points after the Ferrari driver finished the Austrian GP in fifth place.
