Lagos – Soccer fans in Lagos on Monday expressed misgivings about the poor electricity supply in the face of the ongoing World Cup in Brazil.
In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the fans expressed displeasure with the incessant electricity cuts in the Ojo area of Lagos.
Emeka Nwaeke, a sign writer at Volkswaggen Motor Park, said that since the competition, he had not watched any match completely because of erratic power supply.
“The first time I tried to watch the opening match between Brazil and Croatia, half way into the match power was disrupted.
“It will be more frustrating if the same situations which have been the order of the day repeat themselves during any of the Eagles matches,” he said.
Joseph Felix, a cobbler at the Lagos State University, said he wished to watch all the Eagles matches without difficulty.
Felix said he had been following Eagles preparations and build-up matches with keen interest.
He added that it would be agonising if he missed any of the Eagles matches.
“I believe that watching the Eagles matches would boost their morale which they deserve from Nigerians,” Felix said.
The shoe mender said he had not been able to watch any of the matches but noted that he wished to start with the Eagles.
He appealed to the electricity distribution company to make electricity available to enable Nigerians to watch the Eagles.
Another fan, Segun Banjo, urged the electricity company to ensure steady electricity supply during the matches.
“They can decide to show good tidings to the masses by making supply available and rebuild the confidence of the people,” Banjo advised.
Olalekan Odu, a water driller, described the Eagles as a world class brand.
He called on the electricity company to identify with the team and leverage on their expected success.
“They should be part of the victory story by allowing Nigerians watch the matches and lend their support to the national team,” he said.
