Gusau – The Zamfara Government has released over N40.7 million to assist victims of wind and rainstorm in the state.
The state Acting Governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, made the announcement on Tuesday while presenting cash to victims in Barakallahu and Tsunami communities in Gusau Local Government area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the rainstorm, which occurred in the area last week, killed four people and destroyed over 200 houses.
Wakkala said the money would be distributed to victims in four communities affected by the disaster.
He named the communities as Barakallahu and Tsunami in Gusau Local Government area and Morai and Kagara villages in Talata-Mafara Local Government area.
He urged the victims to consider the incident as an act of God.
The acting governor urged the people of the state to remain calm, saying that the government would always assist them in times of need.
Malam Atiku Maradun, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), urged the people of the area to obey town planning rules and regulations when laying foundation of their houses.
He said that obedience to town planning rules and regulations would prevent reccurrence of such disasters in future.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Sunusi Rikiji, commended the government for the gesture and urged the victims to use the money for the purpose it was meant for.
