Adamawa's only female village head dies

Yola – The only female village head in Adamawa, Ma-Astadikko Buba is dead.

Buba was the village head of Dimgeb in Sugu District of Ganye Chiefdom in Ganye Local Government area.

Buba was appointed the Nya-Gangwou (village head) of Dimgeb on May 1, 2005

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of Ganye Traditional Council, Alhaji Ishaku Babidi, said the octogenarian died on Sunday in her resident after a brief illness.

Her actual age was not given because such is forbidden by tradition.

The statement said the deceased was “a spiritual leader and was buried according to Chamba (tribe) traditional rites”.

NAN reports that Dimgeb village had been ruled by successive female leaders for decades following the superstitious belief that male leaders would not last more that three months on the throne.
