The Super Eagles of Nigeria maintained their position on the latest FIFA World Rankings released this morning, with 2014 World Cup hosts Brazil moving up to third place behind Spain and Germany.

In what is the last rankings before the 2014 World Cup begins on June 12, the Super Eagles remained in 44th spot following draws in friendly matches against Greece and Scotland in May.

Nigeria’s group opponents Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina rose on the rankings, with Argentina moving up two places to occupy fifth spot while Bosnia gained four places to occupy 21st spot on the rankings.

Iran was the only nation in the Super Eagles group to drop in the new rankings, going down six places to be just a point and a place above Nigeria ahead of their meeting on June 16.

Before then, the Super Eagles will meet with the United States in their final warm-up match for the World Cup while Argentina face Slovenia also in their final warm-up match on Saturday.

Elsewhere on the rankings, Brazil moved up two places to achieve their highest ranking in three years while Algeria became the highest ranked African nation after gaining three places to occupy 22nd spot, one place ahead of Cote D’Ivoire who long held the spot as Africa’s highest ranked nation.
