Ibadan – Mr Oyewole David, a former staff of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, has sued Trust Fund Pension Plc over his unpaid pension.
David’s counsel, Mr Christopher Ojei, told the National Industrial Court in Ibadan on Wednesday that his client’s pension had not been paid after his retirement from IITA in July 2006.
Ojei noted that his client had gone through the rigorous process of completing the required documentation since May 2010.
The counsel said that the company had breached its commitment which was to provide financial security at retirement and ensure continued quality of life for the claimant who had left service.
He said that his client had visited the office of the defendant with no positive response, noting that he was not enjoying the dividends of the scheme which he had participated in.
Ojei said that the refusal of the defendant to pay his client’s entitlement had put him in financial stress.
He said his client could not afford to properly feed, clothe and educate his family members made up of a wife and five children.
The counsel urged the court to order the company to pay the entitlement of his client under the pension scheme.
Ojei also urged the court to award a cost of N10 million as general damages in favour of his client.
The defence counsel, Mr Korede Olaleye, prayed the court for an extension of time to enable him file some necessary documents.
Justice Edith Agbakoba adjourned the case till June 25.
