Defending champions Kano Pillars this evening in Kano thrashed league leaders Sharks 4-1 in one of the matchday 18 of the Nigeria Premier League encounters played today.
Having had a 10-match unbeaten run ended last weekend, Sharks fell to a second league defeat in four days as Kano Pillars made a devastating return to Kano after completing a three-match banishment to Kaduna.
Shobowale Azeez gave Pillars an early lead and Rabiu Ali doubled the champions’ lead midway through the first half after being teed up by Gambo Mohammed.
A brace of headers from Ahmad Hassan saw Pillars take a 4-0 lead as Sharks fell apart, with Christian Pyagbara scoring a consolation for the Port-Harcourt side after 73 minutes.
The results sees Kano Pillars rise to second place with 28 points, two points behind Sharks as the Nigeria Premier League approaches the halfway stage of the season. Pillars also have a game in hand.
Meanwhile in Warri, the match between Warri Wolves and Bayelsa United was called off after a heavy rain rendered the pitch waterlogged. The match will now be played on Thursday.
