Enyimba reduced the gap on Nigeria Premier League leaders Sharks to two points after a 2-0 win over Gombe United in Aba in one of the matchday 18 encounters played today.

Andrew Abalogu gave the Aba Elephants the lead midway through the first half off a Mfon Udoh assist, with Udoh wrapping up the result from the penalty spot on the hour mark.

The win allowed Enyimba rise one place to third on the league table with 28 points from 18 matches, behind champions Kano Pillars on goal difference and two points behind Sharks that lost 4-1 at Pillars.

Enyimba is followed on the table by Nasarawa United in fourth place, down from second place, after the Lafia club came away from Omoku with a goalless draw against the league’s bottom club Nembe City.

Elsewhere, Peter Onyekachi ran the show for Abia Warriors in the 4-1 win over Akwa United in Umuahia, assisting Chisom Chikatara’s opening goal in the 23rd minute.

Onyekachi then won a penalty – converted by Chima Uluocha – five minutes later, after being fouled in the Akwa United area. Ini Akpan pulled Akwa United back into the match with a penalty soon after.

Onyekachi however restored Abia Warriors’ two-goal lead midway through the second half while Chikatara sealed the result for Umuahia side with his second of the game.

In other matches, Rangers got a 3-1 win over Lobi Stars in Enugu, Heartland came away from Akure with a 2-2 draw at Sunshine Stars, El-Kanemi thrashed Kaduna United 4-0 while first half goals from Chidiebere Okolie and Enem Eduok gave Dolphins a 2-0 win over FC Taraba in Port-Harcourt.
