Nigeria Premier League leaders Sharks saw their 10-match unbeaten run brought to an end while champions Kano Pillars capitalised with a hard-earned win over Enyimba in a couple of the matchday 17 encounters played today.

A 92nd minute penalty converted by Saviour Fidelis was enough to give midtable FC Taraba a lone goal win over Sharks, the first loss for the Port-Harcourt side since losing 1-0 at Gombe United on matchday 6 in April.

Sharks however remain three points clear at the top of the Premier League table with 30 points from 17 matches, after second placed Nasarawa United failed to capitalise after losing 2-1 at Warri Wolves.

Yaro Bature had given Nasarawa the lead in Warri just before half time but Oke Ogagatewho equalised for Wolves with a 59th minute header and was denied by the crossbar a minute later.

Wolves would however complete their comeback courtesy of Stanley Dimgba strike in the 82nd minute.

Meanwhile in Kaduna, champions Kano Pillars claimed a 1-0 win over Enyimba through Gambo Mohammed’s stoppage time goal to rise to third on the table with 25 points from 16 matches.

Elsewhere in the Premier League today, a stoppage time penalty by Tamen Medrano helped Sunshine Stars get a 3-2 win at home to El-Kanemi while Abia Warriors beat Gombe United 2-1 in Umuahia.

Enugu Rangers got a lone goal win over Kaduna United thanks to Osaguona Ighodaro’s ninth goal of the season, Akwa United came from behind to beat 10-man Crown FC 2-1 in Uyo while the match between Bayelsa United and Heartland, suspended from Saturday with scores at 4-2, finished 4-3 in Heartland’s favour.

On the league table, third placed Kano Pillars have 25 points and a game in hand, but lead six clubs, including fourth placed Enyimba only on goal difference while 12th placed Giwa FC is just a point behind Pillars.

At the bottom, Nembe City with 14 points is six points from safety albeit with a game in hand, while Gombe United has 17 points in 19th spot, Kaduna United has 18 points in 18th place and Bayelsa United – with two games in hand – now occupy 17th place with 20 points, behind El-Kanemi in goal difference.
