NEW YORK (AFP) – Seven people were killed when a light aircraft crashed as it took off from an airfield outside Boston, US officials and media said Sunday.

Officials at the Bedford-Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) said emergency personnel responded to the plane crash at LG Hanscom Field, located just north-west of Boston.

The late Saturday incident “involves a private aircraft that was departing Hanscom,” Massport said in a statement, adding the airfield would be closed until further notice.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a message on Twitter late Saturday that they would investigate the crash of the Gulfstream IV plane.

All seven people aboard the plane died in the crash, New England Cable News, which belongs to the NBC network, reported, citing airport officials.
