Claims are emerging that the Nigerian national football team could be involved in match-fixing at the coming FIFA World Cup starting in just over a week from now in Brazil.

Days after allegations that the friendly match between the Super Eagles and Scotland was targeted for match-fixing, a football agent, Henry Chukwuma Okoroji, is said to have offered to fix matches at the World Cup.

In a report by The Sun (UK), the football agent states that he has recruited two Nigerian players and could arrange for a yellow card for €50,000, with a penalty costing €100,000.

This development comes days after allegations that the friendly match between Nigeria and Scotland was fixed. The match ended in a 2-2 draw in London on Wednesday, with the National Crime Agency opening an investigation on the allegations.

It is not the first time Nigeria has been named in match-fixing allegations, with a Singaporean claiming a World Cup qualifying match between the Super Eagles and Mozambique was fixed.

A friendly match between Nigeria and North Korea prior to the 2010 World Cup has also been alleged to have been fixed.

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi meanwhile had debunked allegations that the Super Eagles are involved in match-fixing, stating that the team ‘are footballers, not gamblers’.
