Oyo 2015: Only God, voters will determine next governor – Alao-Akala

Adebayo Alao-Akala, ex-Oyo State governor

Ogbomoso (Oyo State) – A former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, says only God and the electorate will decide who becomes the next governor of the state in 2015.

Alao-Akala told newsmen in Ogbomoso on Monday that “the people had tasted governance from both sides of the coin” and would with the help of God determine who to vote in as governor.

Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State had on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the local government caretaker chairmen said he would contest and win a second term.

“He only expressed himself. He is entitled to his opinion but Almighty God and the electorates will decide who governs.

“All that the people want is someone who will rule and change their standard of living, someone who will ensure that the people have food on their table,” Alao-Akala said.

Alao-Akala said the present administration had only succeeded in expanding ready-made roads and also turned home owners into tenants through the destruction of their houses.

He also said he was not aware of any crisis in the state chapter of the PDP.

Alao-Akala, who admitted that there were some aggrieved party members, added that the problem would be resolved soon.

The former governor said he was interested in building the party and would not work against such efforts.

“It is better to build the party than building individual careers. The party is very important in politics but it could be killed if leaders allocate party positions to satisfy selfish interests.

“We need to put round pegs in round holes and that will make the party stronger,” he said.

Alao-Akala said President Goodluck Jonathan deserves a second term in office, considering the tremendous achievements recorded by his administration.

“The president has done well.

“He is presently reconstructing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which has been abandoned since 1979.

“Ibadan Airport is undergoing a face-lift; the Ibadan-Oyo-Ilorin Expressway has been reconstructed while the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport is one of the best in the world,” he said.
