Enyimba, Rangers Win in Nigeria Premier League

Former champions Enyimba and Enugu Rangers returned to winning ways in a two of the matches played across the country today in the Nigeria Premier League.

Having endured a poor start to the season, Enyimba secured a lone goal win over Kaduna United in Aba courtesy of a well struck volley by former Super Eagles midfielder Sani Kaita after 30 minutes.

And in Enugu, goals from Senegalese player Pierre Coly in the sixth minute and Osaguona Ighodaro in the 76th minute helped Rangers to a 2-0 win over Crown FC.

Enyimba and Rangers however remain in midtable despite winning, with the Aba Elephants now in ninth place with 18 points while the Flying Antelopes are a point behind Enyimba in 12th place.

Between the two clubs, Giwa FC of Jos is now 10th with 18 points after a lone goal win over Gombe United while defending champions Kano Pillars is now 11th after a 2-0 win over second placed Nasarawa United in one of three matches played on Saturday.

In Warri, Heartland’s four match unbeaten run came to an end with a lone goal loss at third placed Warri Wolves while in Umuahia, Lobi Stars lost the chance to move up to second spot after relinquishing a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 at Abia Warriors.

Elsewhere today, bottom club Nembe City got a 1-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors and FC Taraba won 2-1 at home to Bayelsa United, a win that moved Taraba up to fifth place with 19 points, ahead of Lobi on goal difference.
