The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha said on Saturday in Owerri that his administration has constructed over 1,000 kms of road in the last three years.
Okorocha said this while addressing members of the Guild of Editors (NGE) who were in the state for its Standing Committee Meeting.
“The focus on road construction is to open up the state and attract investors,” he said.
The governor said some of the roads were already inaugurated while others were at various stages of completion.
He said the state had also invested massively in the area of health delivery as a State Specialist Hospital had been upgraded and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
“This is to aid in bringing healthcare closer to the people,’” the governor said.
In the area of education, Okorocha said his administration has introduced free education at all levels, including the provision of free books, uniforms, bags and pairs of shoes.
“We have also been providing stipends to the pupils,” he said.
Speaking on the Rochas Foundation, the governor said more than 10,000 Nigerians had benefited from the foundation’s free education programme, with about 2,000 of them in the universities.
On economic development, he said small business operators in the state had been given tax relief as part of measures to boost the growth of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).
On security, Okorocha advised politicians to close ranks and not politicise the current security situation.
He disclosed that APC governors had resolved to reconstruct the Government Secondary School (GSS), Chibok in Borno which was attacked by insurgents.
