Owner of English football club Aston Villa, Randy Lerner has put the Premier League side up for sale according to a statement posted on the club’s website today.

The statement comes a day after the 2013/14 Premier League season concluded with Aston Villa finishing in 15th place, just five points off the relegation zone, following a 3-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur in their final match.

Lerner had stated in April he would resolve speculation thn surrounding the future of the club at the end of the season, and now has engaged the Bank of America Merrill Lynch to advise on the sale of Aston Villa.

The American businessman became owner of Aston Villa following a £62.6m deal with the club’s board back in 2006.
